Oral Traditions: Continuity and Transformation in Northeast India and Southeast Asia—Conference
This volume details the conference proceedings of the international conference on ‘Oral Traditions: Continuity and Transformations in Northeast India and Southeast Asia’, conducted by the Division in 2016, in Shillong, Meghalaya, in collaboration with Centre for Community Knowledge, Ambedkar University. It brought together fifty scholars from five countries namely, India, Thailand, Malaysia, UK, and the Netherlands, along with heritage activists and museum curators belonging to local communities of the region. The sessions were designed to include various themes that helped the participants engage with oral traditions in multiple ways, from folklore to language and performative traditions, from gendered tales found in material cultures to ecological traditions and stories of origin; under different socio-economic contexts.
