KAJRI-THUMRI UTSAV (20-21 August 2016) by INTACH Varanasi Chapter supported by ICH division, INTACH

A kajri thumri festival was organized in Varanasi on 20-21 August 2016 by INTACH Varanasi Chapter and Kala Prakash, supported by ICH division, INTACH.
The two day festival began with a vedic mangalacharan by young girls and songs based on ganga and ‘saawan’ by students of Pt. Devashish Dey performed at the Rasrang AC Banquet Hall, Sigra, Varanasi. Shri Samrat Pandit, a patiala gharana exponent also performed on the first day. The second day of the event took place at the ‘Anandam’ hall, Surya hotel, cantonment, Varanasi.
This artists line up for the second day included:
vocals: shrimati Indrani Mukherjee( Kolkata) and Dr. Sukalpa Mukherjee (Varanasi); Tabla: Pt. Vinod Lele and Pt. Kishore Mishra; Harmonium: Shri Vinay Mishra and Pt. Pankaj Mishra.

The programme was well attended by an enthusiastic audience which also included children from various schools in Varanasi. The highlight of the programme was the honoured presence of Pt Rajan Mishra and Pt Sajan Mishra on the inaugural day.
